Score Returns
Why are these Returns Required?
There are several reasons:
- to provide a starting point for county team selection,
- to identify archers who are eligible for the County Invitation Tournament,
- looking to the future, they will provide useful information to help determine development priorities.
Whose Scores are Required?
We are only interested in the scores of archers who are members or associate members of the KAA. This is simply because, if they are not members, they are not eligible to shoot for the county team, hold county records, or attend the County Invitation Tournament.
That has reduced the total number of archers to around 1200, but if that many returns were received every month, we would accumulate a mountain of paper, with no realistic prospect of doing anything useful with it; so we must be still more selective:
- Juniors: because the numbers of juniors (under 18) are relatively small, please supply scores for all juniors, regardless of classification, bow style, gender or age.
- Seniors:
- Longbow: all scores for longbow archers who currently hold an outdoor target archery classification of Third Class or higher.
- All Others: all scores for archers who currently hold an outdoor target archery classification of Kent County Bowman (KCB) or higher.
To currently hold a classification, it must have been earned during the last season or this - and that means it is correct to include the recent scores for someone who has only just gained the necessary classification.
How Often are they Required?
Monthly, preferably before the third week of the following month.
Please do not save up scores for several months and then send them in in one large batch; doing so greatly reduces their value and increases the work-load of the county Records Officer.
It may also mean that members of your club:
- do not receive an invitation to the "County Invitation Tournament" that they are entitled to,
- are not included in the selection process for the county team.
By way of example, there have been instances in the past where scores were saved up for the whole summer - as a result at least one archer was deprived of a very good chance of selection for the county team.
What Scores Should be Included?
All of them, good and bad!
Please do not be selective, sending only the good scores, as this may give a false impression of the overall standard and consistency of the archer.
Although the emphasis is on target archery (indoor or outdoor, according to the time of year), please also send scores from other disciplines, so that we have a good, all-round picture of the archer. In particular, please send in indoor scores for anyone whose outdoor scores were sent during the previous season, the only exception being longbow scores, which are not currently required for indoor rounds.
Who Should Send the Return?
This is primarily the responsibility of club Records Officers, who should send the scores on the Club Scores Return form. However it must be borne in mind that they can only supply information that they themselves have been given; it is the individual archer's responsibility to ensure that they provide that information.
If, however, an archer believes that his/her his scores are being overlooked, he/she may supply scores direct to the county Records Officer on the Individual's Scores Return form.
Where Should they Send the Return?
Please send all score returns to the County Records Officer.
Because all score returns must be signed by the archer and/or club Records Officer (or other official), they should be sent by normal mail. However any archer who believes that his/her scores are not being received, may contact the county Records Officer by e-mail to clarify the current situation.
What Other Information Should I Include?
There is space at the bottom of the Club Return form for additional information and, if that isn't enough, there is also the back - but please mark the form "PTO" or similar to call attention to it. The space is there for any additonal information you would like to give; of particular interest is:
- if any of the scores represent medal positions in a tournament, please give details;
- if you have earned a classification (or re-earned it for this year);
- if you wish to claim a county record, you can draw attention to it here, but the claim itself must be sent in the correct way, so please also read the section about claiming county records first;
- any other significant achievements, for example: Rose Awards, FITA Stars or national records claimed or awarded.
